The Ground Water Resources Program is responsible for the regulation and management of ground water resources. Program staff evaluate the effect on an area prior to the installation of certain water well types. This is accomplished through prior notification to the agency by the well owner of the well’s location and its pumping capacity.

Program staff evaluate critical ground water area applications and determine if there is significant stress in an area of an aquifer as a result of, but not limited to, water decline, saltwater movement or subsidence. Program staff also determine the boundaries and the best plan to regulate and manage the ground water resource of the affected area.

The program continues to work toward the development of a statewide ground water resource management program that includes the evaluation of alternative supplies and technologies including the treatment of surface water and reclaimed water.
