Introduction

The Leasing Section is a part of the Petroleum Lands Division of the Office of Mineral Resources and is located on the 8th Floor of the LaSalle Building in Baton Rouge.

All tracts nominated for a State Mineral Lease Sale are reviewed by employees of the Leasing Section. Some employees review the nominations for technical accuracy and prepare the required maps for each of the nominated tracts. Other employees ensure that each of the nominated tracts are advertised properly and also prepare the lease documents to be executed by the lessee after the monthly Mineral Lease Sale.

The Leasing Section also has a public reference area. In this area there are maps that give a graphic representation of all of the current State Mineral Leases. There are also books and maps that give the history of all tracts that were previously nominated for State Mineral Leases.

The Leasing Section issues an informal Notice of Publication that describes and graphically depicts the tracts submitted for each monthly Mineral Lease Sale. The Notice of Publication can be mailed to prospective bidders for a nominal fee; in addition, it is now available on this web site.
