Bayou Sorrel boat launch improvements completed in Iberville Parish

$765,000 project features five-lane launch, ADA-accessible parking and relocation of floating pier

A $765,177 dollar boat launch improvement project on Bayou Sorrel in Iberville Parish is getting good reviews from boaters and fishermen using the new site, according to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources.

Funded in part with $670,000 from DNR’s Atchafalaya Basin Program, the new launch was completed in March by Cajun Maritime, LLC and is located on 10 acres just north of the old launch.

It features an ADA-accessible parking lot, five lanes and relocation of a floating pier, the release states.

DNR Secretary Stephen Chustz said in the release that he’s pleased at the project’s outcome and is glad the public will have better access to the Basin.

“Working closely with Iberville parish officials and the legislative delegation for the Atchafalaya Basin, this project has been completed and is a continuation of our efforts to improve public access to this unbelievable natural resource,” Chustz said.

To find the launch, start at Hwy. 1 in Plaquemine, go to La. Hwy. 75 to Bayou Sorrel, turn on the La. Hwy. 75 spur and cross the bridge, then turn left onto Bayou Sorrel Road. Take the first gravel road crossing the levee on the right.
