Federal duck stamp price increase in effect for 2015-16 season

Price bumped from $15 to $25; stamps can be purchased online

For the first time since 1991, hunters will have to shell out a little more cash to buy a federal duck stamp this season.

With last December’s passage of the Duck Stamp Act of  2014, which was signed into law by President Obama late last year, the price for a federal stamp is now $25.

The $10 increase, which was supported by Ducks Unlimited, will help in providing funding to conserve additional waterfowl habitat.

As part of the Duck Stamp Act, hunters can now purchase the federal stamp online.

According to a press release from DU, physical stamps will still be mailed to buyers, but the online proof of purchase will meet the requirement for having a duck stamp for up to 45 days after the transaction is completed.

After that time, hunters must carry the traditional paper stamp when hunting waterfowl.

“Anyone with an Internet connection and a credit card can now purchase federal duck stamps from the comfort of their own home,” Kellis Moss, DU’s director of public policy, said in a press release. “State hunting and fishing licenses have been available online for years, and this is one more step in making waterfowl hunting more accessible to everyone.”
