Restoration Technology SectionThe Restoration Technology Section provides avenues of information exchange and transfer to the general public and other state and federal agencies on past, present, and future Coastal Restoration Division activities. The primary duties of this section are development of Geographical Information System (GIS) and restoration project relational databases, development and maintenance of the Coastal Restoration Division website, development of information exchange and transfer methods, and the completion of Ecological Reviews on all proposed restoration projects. The Ecological Review process improves the likelihood of restoration project success: each restoration project’s biotic benefits, goals, and strategies are evaluated during the engineering and design phase prior to authorization of construction. This evaluation utilizes environmental data and engineering information, as well as applicable scientific literature, to assess whether or not and to what degree the proposed project features will cause the desired ecological response. The Restoration Technology Section also produces two types of printed information. The first type consists of recurring programmatic reports that provide summary information on the effectiveness of the restoration program. The second type consists of information packets used to assist the Coastal Restoration Division in meetings with various legislative committees and to orient visiting federal and state government representatives making site visits to coastal restoration projects. |
