Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring (BICM)State Project Number: BICM Description:The Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring (BICM) data collection program is designed to monitor the mainland shoreline of the south Louisiana coast, with special emphasis on the sandy beaches and barrier islands. These important coastal landforms provide significant hurricane protection, and they enable large estuaries & unique habitats to exist, but they are constantly changing in response to factors such as storms, river discharge, sea level, waves, marsh loss, and human activities. BICM also provides an important tool to monitor the performance of existing coastal restoration projects, and will facilitate the planning of future projects. Parameters monitored by BICM include Bathymetry, Topography, Shoreline Change, Land Loss, Habitats, and Storm Impact Assessments. Reports Available:Project Information:
