Delta Management at Fort St. Philip

State Project Number: BS-11
Project Priority List (PPL): 10
Federal Sponsor: United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)
Project Types: Sediment Diversion, Sediment and Nutrient Trapping
Construction Completion Date: 2006

Description:

The objective of the project is to enhance the delta-building process occurring as a result of the crevasse at Fort St. Philip. Six additional artificial crevasses will be constructed to divert freshwater and sediment into areas currently restricted by spoil banks or natural ridges. In addition, linear vegetated terraces will be constructed to enhance sediment retention and reduce wave energy in one of the large receiving bays.
