MINERAL BOARD PLANS TO ORGANIZE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY FORUM BEFORE START OF REGULAR SESSION

Members of the State Mineral Board yesterday adopted a resolution to work together in organizing a special forum to discuss the state's oil industry's current crisis. The Board plans to assemble oil and gas industry leaders, state officials, and economists to hear concerns and recommendations before the start of the 1999 Regular Session of the Legislature. "The forum's purpose is to focus on finding ways to support industry at a time when oil prices are low and jobs are being lost," said Board member Bill Allerton. Allerton said the current industry situation has a rippling impact on the state's economy and the livelihood of thousands of people. He will lead the Board's committee charged with organizing the forum planned sometime in the month of February in Baton Rouge.

The Mineral Board conducted a Lease Sale January 13, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mineral Board Hearing Room located in the State Land and Natural Resources Building in Baton Rouge. Below are the preliminary results of the Lease Sale and 1998-99 Fiscal Year totals.

Mineral Board secretary Gus Rodemacher noted that this month's lease sale continues a downward trend in state leasing results, lowering the monthly average to $2.2 million in the current fiscal year as compared to last fiscal year's monthly average of $4.2 million.
