Three New Coastal Clean Marinas on board in 2014

DNR Office of Coastal Management Meets Owners to Recognize Achievements

Tuesday, June 3, 2014

Baton Rouge- La. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary Stephen Chustz announced today the certification of three new coastal marinas that have achieved a high standard of management practices and will operate under the title “Louisiana Clean Marina”.

The state’s Clean Marina Program is administered by the DNR Office of Coastal Management, which certifies marina businesses that meet best management practices set forth in the program’s guidelines. The fifteen marinas in the program are also part of a national register of marinas and marina owners that provide attractive, environmentally responsible facilities for the boating public and exceptional services for clients.

“The program places a stamp of approval that these marina operators have voluntarily adopted practices to reduce pollution and protect our coastal waters,” DNR Secretary Chustz said.

DNR aims to reach all marinas within the coastal zone boundary for this certification program and encourages the participation of non-certified operators. “We are so pleased to show recognition and acknowledge the efforts of business owners that take environmentally responsible actions in protecting coastal resources,” noted Office of Coastal Management Assistant Secretary Keith Lovell.

Along with public recognition and certification, Clean Marinas are entitled to a special flag to fly on their property. This month, the three new certified marinas are − Venice Marina in Venice, Rigolets Marina in New Orleans, and Chamale Marina in Slidell.
