Louisiana Energy Programs

Economic Stimulus Programs

  • Economic Stimulus Programs

The State Energy Office is currently in the 90 day closeout period for those grants funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

The Empower Louisiana webpages have been taken down; however information, final reports, program successes will be updated to summarize those projects benefitting from ARRA funding .

  • The Empower DashBoard
The Empower Dashboard details the State Energy Program (SEP) and Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) projects funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009(ARRA).  The Dashboard provides a visual representation of project location (including address, parish, senate district, and house district), as well as tabular information about Job Creation, Energy Savings, Renewable Energy Generation and other facts about the completed projects. Empower Dashboard is free and open to everyone.

Please note, that project information is continually being updated as projects are completed. Occasionally, some delay may be experienced between the completion of a project and posting of information to the Dashboard.

Residential Energy Programs

Commercial Energy Programs

  • Commercial Energy Conservation Code
    Energy efficiency standards for Louisiana
  • Commercial Food Service Equipment
As much as 80 percent of the $10 billion annual energy bill for the commercial food service sector does no useful work. Restaurants that invest strategically [in ENERGY STAR equipment] can cut utility costs 10 to 30 percent without sacrificing service, quality, style or comfort — while making significant contributions to a cleaner environment.

Institutional Energy Programs

  • EnergySmart Schools
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released new lesson plans for teachers, parents, and community leaders to use in educating our nation's youngest energy users about the benefits of saving energy. These curricula can help teach children of any age about energy efficiency, but are especially beneficial to use in districts undergoing energy-saving upgrades. Energy-saving retrofits, LEED certification, and other projects at schools make great learning opportunities for the most important members of the school community—the students. Visit DOE's EnergySmart Schools web site to download grade-specific lesson plans and access tools and resources to teach about and help implement energy efficiency in your school.

St. Tamany School Board Receives Stewardship Award
On September 11, 2008, the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, Technology Assessment Division, presented the esteemed Stewardship Award to the St. Tammany School Board. The presentation was in recognition of the school system’s Instructional Technology Center building, which has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s prestigious ENERGY STAR Label, the national symbol for protecting the environment through superior energy performance. The Instructional Technology Center is the first and only school district facility in the State of Louisiana to receive the recognition.

Web-based Training: Implementing Recommendations from the Advanced Energy Design Guide for K-12 School Buildings
  • EnergySmart Hospitals
Hospitals are among the nation's most complex, diverse, and energy-intensive facilities. Hospitals today find themselves at the nexus of two critical pressure-points: healthcare and energy, each with their own escalating restraints. To support hospitals in addressing both these challenging trends, the Department of Energy (DOE) has created a comprehensive initiative – EnergySmart Hospitals – and its centerpiece, the industry-driven Hospital Energy Alliance.
