How to Assign a State Mineral Lease

The basic procedures for assigning an interest in a state mineral lease are set forth below.  For more information, please refer to the comprehensive requirements.

Basic Procedures
  1. Register with the Office of Mineral Resources by submitting a completed Registration FormAdobe Acrobat (PDF).

  2. Assignment or other Transfer of Interest document must be signed by Assignor(s) and Assignee(s), witnessed, notarized and received in the Office of Mineral Resources by the date of the Mineral Lease Sale for the month prior to the month on which it will appear on the Docket for approval by the State Mineral Board.

    If the assignment is of a partial interest or is for only a portion of the lease, go to the comprehensive requirements.

  3. Assignment or other Transfer of Interest document must be accompanied by a Statement of Conveyance - Form B [Download:Microsoft Excel Format (XLS)orAdobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF)] accurately delineating the working interest decimal of all working interest parties before and after the assignment or transfer is approved. The working interest decimal of all parties on the Form “B” prior to approval of the assignment or transfer of interest must match exactly the working interest decimals of all working interest owners in the lease as shown on the SONRIS system of the Office of Mineral Resources.

  4. Assignment or other Transfer of Interest must be accompanied by a check payable to the Office of Mineral Resources in the amount of $100.00 to cover docketing fee.
  5. Submit the assignment packet to the Office of Mineral Resources, Attention Docket and Lease Ownership section, 617 N. Third Street, 8th Floor, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802.
