IOGCC Conference Held in New Orleans, Sept. 23-25

La. Commissioner James Welsh listens as North Dakota Governor John Hoeven gives remarks to IOGCC attendees in New Orleans for their annual conference. Commissioner Welsh provided remarks to the group on behalf of Governor Blanco who was in Spain for an economic mission trip.

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Office of Conservation participated in this year’s Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) meeting held in New Orleans. The commission is comprised of governors and government leaders from each of the energy producing states.

Commissioner of Conservation James Welsh addressed the group on September 23rd, during a welcome reception in which outgoing IOGCC Chairman Governor John Hoeven (ND) and Governor Sarah Palin (Alaska) expressed optimism for increasing domestic energy production. Gov. Palin will serve as Chairman in 2008.

DNR Secretary Angelle Meets with new MMS Director

Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle will meet with newly appointed Director of the Mineral Management Service Randall Luthi (Washington, DC) on Tuesday, September 25 for a series of briefings in New Orleans and Lafayette. Luthi replaced former MMS director Johnnie Burton in July of this year.

“I am very pleased that Mr. Luthi has scheduled time to be with us, to get a first-hand account of the state’s CIAP program, and to speak to membership of LOGA at their Expo in Lafayette,” Angelle said.

Luthi tells LOGA group that upcoming October mineral lease sale in federal waters off of La. coast is expected to be largest sale in the past 10 years.

Luthi was a deputy director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and is a former speaker and majority leader of the Wyoming House of Representatives. He will address the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association on Tuesday at 11:30 am, at the Gulf Coast Prospect Expo at the Cajundome.
