BIOGRAPHY
The Louisiana
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is committed to protecting
and enhancing the natural resources of our state.
Balancing responsible stewardship of our environment with economic
development and growth is extremely important to the goals of
the department.
Louisiana has one of
the largest wetland estuaries and most productive river deltas
in the world, including the world’s largest
port system. For several years now, DNR has been beating the drums
for the rest of the country to hear about this valuable landscape
of ours, known as America’s Wetland. Our wetlands are endangered
and coastal land loss is at an alarming rate of 25 to 30 square
miles each year. This struggle to save millions of acres of wetlands
is daunting but one worthy of a good fight. Coastal restoration
and sustainability is a serious priority of the Blanco administration.
Louisiana’s
oil, gas and mineral production has been a lifeline of the state’s
economy for many, many years. We believe the industry
and the oil and gas infrastructure here can continue to
ensure our citizens and America’s consumers with a dependable
source of energy. We are open to innovation, new ideas and technologies,
and activities that promote a clean, safe environment.
Louisiana
also has a diverse natural geography -- from the Atchafalaya
River near
Henderson Swamp to Toledo Bend’s rolling uplands
near Zwolle, we are endowed with a rich history and culture as
well as true scenic beauty.
Feel free to let me know your comments and suggestions on any
aspects of our operations at DNR.
