The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Industrial Assessment
Center (IAC) is one of 26 centers supported by the U.S. Department
of Energy (DOE) at universities across the country. ULL- IAC provides
plant assessments at no cost to eligible small and mid-sized manufacturers.
Assessments are performed by a team consisting of a ULL faculty
member and upper-level engineering students. A confidential report
is generated identifying opportunities to save energy, reduce
waste, and improve productivity. Client proprietary information
is protected. The plant incurs no obligation to act on any recommendations.
IAC assessment recommendations that are implemented average saving
a facility over $55,000 annually.
Manufacturing plants in Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)
20-39 meeting the following criteria qualify for these free assessments:
Gross annual sales below $100 million.
Fewer than 500 employees at the plant site.
Annual utility bills more than $100,000 and less
than $2 million.
No in-house professional staff to perform an assessment.
Plant-wide Assessments are a popular way to work with BestPractices:

Collaborative, Targeted Assessments (Large Plants, match
$ required). DOE experts in industrial energy management are available
to provide targeted, in-plant technical assistance to identify
systems such as motors, steam, compressed air, pumping, and process
heating for improvement.
