Baton Rouge, LA – As part of Governor Foster’s press conference today, officials from the America’s WETLAND: Campaign to Save Coastal Louisiana (AW), launched the campaign’s latest innovation – the “Don’t Be a Big Loser” advertising campaign – to inform the state, nation and world of what they will lose as America’s WETLAND vanishes.

Five marinas in the state have recently been certified and have joined the state’s Clean Marina Program, according to coastal managers at the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Two projects to protect or enhance approximately 12,000 acres of Louisiana wetlands were recently approved for funding by the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act Task Force, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources jointly announced.

State energy officials from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and officials from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will join other ENERGY STAR partners across the nation in bringing attention to the importance of using energy wisely.

NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources recently installed a first-of-a-kind habitat restoration test project on Louisiana's Chandeleur Islands. The project, which included the installation of 1,500 smooth cordgrass plants (Spartina alterniflora), is unique because it will provide specific information on the most effective way to restore the islands and, ultimately, protect important wetlands. "This is the kind of innovative work we need to protect Louisiana's coastal wetlands," said Penny Dalton, the director of NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service.
