Today - 8/11- serves as REMINDER to call 811 Before Digging
Louisiana citizens are encouraged to make a free call 2 days before digging to know what’s below
DNR Office of Conservation Pipeline Safety
According to the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Common Ground Alliance, all it takes is simply calling 811 before starting excavation or demolition work to help prevent injuries or damage to underground utilities and pipelines.
Striking a single line can cause injury, repair costs, fines and inconvenient outages. Every digging project, no matter how large or small, warrants a call to 811. Installing a mailbox, building a deck, planting a tree and laying a patio are all examples of digging projects that need a call to 811 before starting.
Noting today, as 8/11, the pipeline industry is sponsoring a media campaign in which television advertising will be aired in markets throughout Louisiana and Texas focusing on the importance of calling before you dig.
