About the Office of Mineral Resources
The Office of Mineral Resources was established to manage the state’s mineral assets and to provide staff to advise the State Mineral Board in granting and administering leases on state-owned lands and water bottoms for the development and production of minerals, primarily oil and gas, for the purpose of optimizing revenue to the state from the royalties, bonuses and rentals generated therefrom.
The Office is headed by the Assistant Secretary, who also serves as the Secretary of the State Mineral Board.
The staff consists of professionals such as landmen, GIS personnel, geologists, engineers, accountants, auditors, attorneys and administrative employees who conduct the day-to-day operations of the Board's business and provide it with the information and technical advice necessary for the accomplishment of business at its monthly meetings.
The Executive Division manages overall office operations including budget, personnel, professional service contracts, and purchasing. more
The Geological and Engineering Division (G&E) provides the State Mineral Board with expertise, advice and recommendations in the fields of geology, geophysics and engineering, by compiling, maintaining and analyzing varied scientific data to determine the most advantageous minerals exploration, development and production on state-owned lands and water bottoms. The division also issues non-exclusive seismic permits for surveys over state-owned lands and water bottoms. more
The Mineral Income Division performs collection and accounting of revenue due the state from mineral leasing activity and production on state-owned lands and water bottoms on behalf of the State Mineral Board. The division also audits revenue due the state from mineral leasing activity and production on state-owned lands and water bottoms. more
The Petroleum Lands Division performs the mineral leasing function on behalf of the State Mineral Board, maintains state mineral lease ownership and property data, manages the docket of items submitted for Board consideration at its monthly meetings and maintains the official state mineral lease files. more
