Boat launches north of the saltwater line prompted amendment, LDWF says
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission last week amended a notice of intent that will push the northern boundary to U.S. Hwy. 90 for allowing possession of a three-day limit of black bass along the coast.
But Mike Wood, director of inland fisheries for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, said the amendment approved on April 3 using Hwy. 90 as the boundary line removes a potential gray area for enforcement of the new limit.
“The saltwater line for the most part is south of Hwy. 90, but a lot of the ramps and launches are at Hwy. 90,” Wood said. “What we were going to create was an area between the saltwater line and Hwy. 90 where some of those anglers fully compliant with the law might go through a patch of water and be subject to citation.
“There’s no reason for that, so it was just a matter of moving the boundary line for this regulation north to cover that and keep these guys out of trouble.”
