After weeks of voting in our Eyes on the Teche photo contest in which more than 400 people voted for oneor more of the photos submitted to The DailyIberian’s special section published Feb. 25, the winner was announced after voting ended at midnight Friday. And the winner is...
A walk with mama bear ... wildlife lagniappe by photographer Kim Bayard, who searched out wildlife in Patterson and was pleasantly surprised to find a bear with three cubs in the open near a treeline in St. Mary Parish.
The photo was published in black-and-white on Page 11 but was shown in color as were all the entries on The Daily Iberian’s website at www.iberianet.com, where voters went to vote for their favorites. The pictures got thousands of views.
For the first-place finish, Bayard receives a $250 gift certificate at any one of the advertising sponsors in the Eyes on the Teche.
Second place went to Mystic Oak by Catherine Roy, which was in black-and-white on Page 12. Roy receives a $150 gift certificate at any one of the special section’s sponsors.
Third place was garnered by OneMore Time, one of the color photos on the front page. Alison Fremin Weisz wins a $50 gift certificate at any one of the special section’s sponsors.
Deserving honorable mentions went to Rainbow Kids by Lisa St. Germain, Old Barn by Emanuel Landry and Sunset Couple by Don Meaux Sr.
Each of the winning photos will appear in the Teche Life section on April 3 with a story about the photographers who took them.
