The Brazoria County Crawfish Festival, formerly the Pearland Crawfish Festival, has not only moved, but will now get international exposure.

The Festival, which will be held April 15 - 17 at MSR Motor Speedway Resort, located at One Performance Drive in Angleton, has been chosen by Voice of America (VOA), an international news service, to be a, “True Americana story, showing the world how people in one part of the country come together, eat, listen to music and enjoy themselves,” said VOA Texas correspondent Greg Flakus.

A new venue and a new caterer will provide the backdrop for VOA’s feature.

Red Swamp Crawfish has been providing Texas with live and hot, fresh, spicy crawfish for over 20 years. Their crawfish comes in daily from the best farmers in rice fields and the Atchafalaya River Basin of Louisiana.

Red Swamp owner Lance Maxwell has a long history of cooking crawfish, as well as processing deer. “I’m a big outdoors person,” said Maxwell. “I’ve been processing deer for years and also love cooking it. We needed something to work with when hunting season ended, and for the last 15 years, it’s been crawfish,” He said. Maxwell also opened the Red Swamp restaurant in Magnolia about a year ago.

He says they will offer sausage, corn and potatoes at the Festival. Red Swamp was the crawfish provider for the Festival in Spring for 10 years.

A big problem that will be eliminated at this Festival is mud, should the weather decide not to cooperate. MSR has 400 acres of land, and 200 of it is concrete. The fields used for parking will have heavy plastic surfaces to make sure participants will not have any problems getting in and out.

MSR also features go-kart rides, as well as opportunities to ride a lap or two in an exotic car, such as a Lamborghini or McLaren.

Owner Kurt Hueni says he is excited that the Festival is coming to MSR. “We’ve had a great experience with the County officials and the event planners,” he said. “I hope this will be the beginning of a long relationship. We’re more than happy to have the Festival here.”
