- EnergySmart Schools
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released new lesson plans for teachers, parents, and community leaders to use in educating our nation's youngest energy users about the benefits of saving energy. These curricula can help teach children of any age about energy efficiency, but are especially beneficial to use in districts undergoing energy-saving upgrades. Energy-saving retrofits, LEED certification, and other projects at schools make great learning opportunities for the most important members of the school community—the students. Visit DOE's EnergySmart Schools web site to download grade-specific lesson plans and access tools and resources to teach about and help implement energy efficiency in your school.

St. Tamany School Board Receives Stewardship Award
On September 11, 2008, the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, Technology Assessment Division, presented the esteemed Stewardship Award to the St. Tammany School Board. The presentation was in recognition of the school system’s Instructional Technology
Center building, which has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s prestigious
ENERGY STAR Label, the national symbol for protecting the environment through superior energy performance. The Instructional Technology Center is the first and only school district facility in the State of Louisiana to receive the recognition.
- EnergySmart Hospitals
Hospitals are among the nation's most complex, diverse, and energy-intensive facilities.
Hospitals today find themselves at the nexus of two critical pressure-points: healthcare and energy, each with their own escalating restraints. To support hospitals in addressing both these challenging trends, the Department of Energy (DOE) has created a comprehensive initiative – EnergySmart Hospitals – and its centerpiece, the industry-driven Hospital Energy Alliance.
