DNR Clean Marina Program Adds New Marinas
12/30/2010—The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ Clean Marina Program announces the addition of two marinas to the Clean Marina Program in 2010.
Bowtie Marina in Calcasieu Parish in the city of Lake Charles and Moran’s Marina in Lafourche Parish near Port Fourchon were both certified earlier this year. These marinas are now officially designated Clean Marinas and members of a national program in which marina owners and operators employ best management practices that help protect the environment, make their marinas more attractive to the boating public, and provide exceptional services for clients.
“These marinas serve as the access points to our vast coastal resources. The example set by our marina operators in joining this program ensures that all who utilize these facilities understand the importance of the conservation and protection of our resources,” said DNR Secretary Scott A. Angelle.
Secretary Angelle initiated the Clean Marina Program at DNR to promote stewardship of our coastal resources. Currently, Louisiana’s Clean Marina program includes 13 of the state’s marinas.
“In a year with so much attention on environmental impacts to our coast, it is fantastic to know that the gateways to some of Louisiana’s most delicious resources lead by example. By the voluntary adoption of best management practices in the operation and maintenance of their marinas, certified Clean Marinas leave an impression and an example for their customers to emulate with respect to the conservation and care of the resources of our state,” added Secretary Angelle.
“We continue to expand the program with the help of environmental and conservation organizations such as the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation,” said Lou Buatt, DNR Assistant Secretary for Coastal Restoration and Management. “The importance of protecting these resources while providing access is a common goal of our organizations.”
“The Clean Marina program is an exceptional opportunity for Louisiana’s top marinas to get the recognition they deserve for adopting best management practices,” said David Cresson, Executive Director and CEO of CCA Louisiana. “I hope that every marina in Louisiana will follow the example of these Clean Marinas and practice this level high of stewardship of our state’s coastal resources.”
Along with public recognition, Louisiana’s Clean Marinas receive a certificate acknowledging their environmentally responsible actions, a special flag to fly on their property, and authorization to use the Clean Marina logo at their place of business, on their letterhead and on advertising materials.
